Your Email Marketing Checklist | Start an Online Business | Wealth ...

Email marketing is the foundation to any successful internet marketing campaign. Despite the bad press email often receives (SPAM!), it?s your most important tool to generating online income.

To be a successful internet marketer, you need to be a great email marketer.

There are many facets to an email marketing campaign, so before you hit SEND!, be sure to utilize the following checklists to maximize the profit potential and make sure you?re not making any crucial mistakes?

General Email Marketing Checklist:

  1. Is the objective of the email clearly defined?
  2. Are you trying to do too much with one email? (note: keep it simple ? you just want the click).
  3. Is this part of a planned campaign or a one-shot broadcast?
  4. Are you ready to track clickthroughs all the way to the final action?
  5. Is there an automatic ?one-click? unsubscribe function in the email?
  6. Have you set-up ?seeds? from different email accounts to check that 100% emails actually go out (from aaaa@aaa.com to zzzz@zzzz.com)?

?From? Field Checklist:

  1. Will my email list recognize the name in the ?from? field?
  2. Are you using a company name, brand name or individual?s name?
  3. Does it look like SPAM! i.e. 342357@lycos.com?
  4. Did you set-up the return email address to come back to a real person?

?Subject Line? Checklist:

  1. Is the subject line enticing (note: short is better)?
  2. Does the subject line create curiosity so that it will get opened?
  3. Is it personalized and does the?personalization work?
  4. Have you tested the message by sending it to yourself first?
  5. Did you use any of the spam filter ?no-nos?? i.e. FREE, !!!!, $$$$, etc.
  6. How many subject lines did you write before deciding upon the one you are using?
  7. If you received this email in your inbox, would you think it was SPAM?
  8. Are you testing 2 or more subject lines against each other? i.e. split testing.

Email ?Message Body? Checklist:

  1. How does your subscriber list know you?
  2. Is your relationship with them referenced in the email?
  3. Is the writing short and tightly worded?
  4. Are the paragraphs longer than 4-5 lines each? (note: long copy does sell but it has to look appealing with more white space).
  5. How many edits did you do before the final version? (you should do a minimum of 2 reviews).
  6. Did you spell check the email?
  7. Did you personalize the ?hello? and does the personalization work?
  8. Did you format the email to less than 65 characters per line ? hard return? (note: this has been shown to work time and time again).
  9. Do all the links work? (check them!) i.e. do web links start with: ?http://? and email links with: ?mailto:? to make them clickable.
  10. Are the links repeated 2-3 times throughout the email?
  11. Did you set up an ad-tracker?
  12. Is the email CAN-SPAM compliant?
  13. Is there a P.S.? (note: again, this has been shown to improve click-through rates).
  14. Did you include a way to people to remove themselves and unsubscribe?
  15. Did you check the message through a spam filter program?
